Product Description
The TINDO FLU-DS series is an industrial double-drum preduster designed for high-volume fried chicken and battered meat production. Unlike single-drum machines that rely on one rolling cycle to adhere flour, the twin-drum architecture passes product through two sequential coating stages — doubling flour-to-product contact time and achieving a thick, scale-like flour layer essential for signature products like salt crispy chicken, pot-wrapped meat, and small crispy pork.
After tumbling and marination, product drops onto the powder-coated infeed belt and is carried into the first drum, where it tumbles with dry flour. It then transfers to the second drum for a secondary coating pass before exiting onto the discharge conveyor — fully coated, evenly floured, and ready for frying. The entire machine is built from SUS304 stainless steel and non-metallic food-grade materials, meeting HACCP hygiene standards.
For single-drum predusting applications, see our Drum Flouring Machine.
Single-drum predusters apply flour in one pass — adequate for thin coatings on nuggets and patties, but insufficient for the heavy, flaky flour layer demanded by fried chicken and Asian-style crispy meat products. The FLU-DS design solves this with two independent drums in series. Product tumbles through the first drum for initial adhesion, then enters the second drum where it picks up additional flour and the coating develops the signature scale-like texture that consumers associate with premium fried chicken.
The flour feed rate is independently controlled by a variable frequency drive. Operators adjust coating thickness from a light dusting to a heavy scale coat by turning a dial — no need to stop the line, no need to change hardware. This is critical for factories running multiple products on the same shift: chicken rice at 10 AM, salt crispy chicken at 2 PM, same machine, different settings.
Every section of the machine — infeed conveyor, first drum, second drum, discharge conveyor — is a self-contained waterproof module. Sections connect via quick-release clamps, not permanent welds. At the end of a production run, each module separates for independent washdown. The waterproof seals prevent flour and water from penetrating bearings and electrical enclosures — a common failure point on single-body predusters where washdown water damages motors.
All product-contact surfaces are SUS304 stainless steel or FDA-compliant non-metallic materials. No painted surfaces, no carbon steel components. The full waterproof design allows high-pressure washdown without risk of corrosion or contamination.
The standard machine accepts manual loading from the infeed hopper. For automated lines, TINDO offers an integrated bucket elevator or inclined belt elevator that lifts marinated product directly from the tumbler discharge to the preduster infeed — eliminating the manual transfer step and reducing labor by one operator per shift.

Best for | Thin flour layer — nuggets, fish fillets, vegetable coating | Thick, scale-like layer — fried chicken, salt crispy chicken, pot-wrapped meat |
Flour adhesion | Good for flat, uniform products | Excellent for irregular, whole-muscle products |
Coating thickness adjustment | Belt speed only | Belt speed + independent flour feed rate |

Rule of thumb: If your product needs a thin, invisible flour dusting before batter — choose FLUG. If your product is the flour coating (fried chicken, crispy meat) and customers judge quality by the thickness and texture of the flour layer — choose FLU-DS.

Q: What's the difference between FLU-DS and the standard drum flouring machine?
The standard FLUG-600 uses a single drum for one coating pass — ideal for thin predust. The FLU-DS uses two sequential drums, doubling the flour contact time for the thick, flaky coating required by fried chicken and crispy meat products. Choose FLUG for predust before batter; choose FLU-DS when the flour IS the coating.
Q: Can the flour thickness be adjusted during production?
Yes. The flour feed rate is independently controlled by a variable frequency drive. Operators adjust the dial without stopping the line. Belt speed can also be adjusted to control dwell time in the drums.
Q: How do you clean the machine between product changeovers?
Each module (infeed, drum 1, drum 2, discharge) separates via quick-release clamps. Individual modules are waterproof and can be pressure-washed independently. Full cleaning takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
Q: What flour types can the FLU-DS handle?
Wheat flour, corn starch, potato starch, rice flour, and seasoned flour blends. The variable frequency feed mechanism handles fine powders and coarse blends equally well.
Q: Can the FLU-DS be integrated with an upstream tumbler?
Yes. The optional inclined elevator or bucket elevator connects directly to a vacuum tumbler discharge, automating the entire marination-to-coating transfer.
